The Living Legend of Indian Football MANNADA

Sailandra Nath Manna is famous to us by Sailen manna. He was born 1st September, 1024 in Batra, a place in Howrah District of West Bengal. He started playing football at 14 years of age. In the meantime, he passed graduation from Surendra Nath College and got a job in Geological Survey of India. But Sailen Manna never broke his attachment with football. At 16 years of age, in 1940 he joined Howrah Union Club. He used to play in position of Defender. He also represented Calcutta University in Inter-University Football Tournament later, in 1942 he joined Mohun Bagan Club. He spent his entire life of his football career in Mohun Bagan Club. He served this club for 19 years and even captained it from 1950 to 1955. He gifted Mohun Bagan times Durand Trophy and 6 times IFA Shield Trophy. It is said that he didn't take any fees for playing in Mohun Bagan. He also lead and triumphed his state West Bengal to won Quadrangular Championship from 1952 to 1954. He has been a great defender and also a great captain. Even English Football Association, in the yearbook of 1953, honoured Sailen Manna as one of the best '10 football captain in the world'. He played for India in 1948 London Olympics and lead in 1952 Helsinki Olympics. He also won South East Asian Quadrangular couple of times. He had India to win the first Asian Games Gold in 1951. Later he also coached Mohun Bagan in 1961 and held the post of many administrative posts of the club.

Sailen Manna received 'Padmashree Award' in 1971. He also awarded with 'Mohun Bagan ratna' in the year 2001. All India Football Federation awarded him the title of 'Footballer of the Millennium'.

This famous footballer is a Reformist of Indian Football. He was not only a great footballer but also a great administrator. The enjoyment which he gifted to us, Bengalis, people of West Bengal will debited to Sailen Manna.

On view of the above , to pay a great homage to such kind of famous footballer of India, we have decided to organize a Nursery Football academy in the name of the 'Padmashree Sailen Manna Nursery Football academy' at Behala. After a hardship struggle since 3 years for the development of Bengal's Football, we have started the same on 28th November, 10. It was a memorable day of Bengal's Football. Sailendra Nath Manna died on 27th February 2012 at the age of 88 years but Mannada is still living with us as such we call him the living legend of Indian Football.

Now we need help and co-operation from all concern to run it smoothly and to make it a grand success.

Aims & Programme Executed

Like Previous 12 Years this year 2022

We have selected 40 talented players 10,12,13 & 15 years of age category out of 1250 players attends in the Selection trial at South Bengal, North Bengal, Kolkata & Bihar, Jhargram, Purulia. The selection trial made at the above points during April'21 to 10th September '22. Players from the different Coaching Centre of South 24 Parganas, Howrah, Nadia, Hooghly, Burdwan and Kolkata participated in the selection camp.

Ex. Renowned Footballer Aniruddhya Koley, Kunlata Ghoshdastidar and Indra Nath Paul were in the selection committee headed by Sri Jayanta Mitra renowned Jr. Coach of West Bengal.

Out of 40 talented players 25 are Muslim. Adibasi, Nepali and others backward class very poor talented young champ. We are hopeful if we provide a good shelter (Modern Football Atmosphere) to them, one day they will be a valuable assets of Indian Football.

Our Motto is to gearup the Bengal's Football as well as South 24 Parganas Football as it is set back for the last few years. Once 1970 onwards our District ever produces the renowned footballer like Tapash Bose, Snkar Das, Manas Bhattacharjee, Kajal Chatterjee, Maidul Islam, Gouranga Banerjee, Krishnendu Roy, Tapas Das (Sr.) 1980 onwards, Aniruddha Koley, Shanti Majumdar, Indranath Paul, Smt. Kuutala Ghoshdastidar etc. But after 1985, only Jayanta Sen & Arnab Mondal representing National football from South 24 Parganas.

In our Academy (Residential) we have arranged two set full kits, track suit, uniform, a good quality food along with seasonable fruits, travelling allowance, medical check-up with medical insurance for treatment, Education allowances etc.

Since 2010 we have created 495 talented Players from nursery levels & supplied to different club of W.B. & India. We have participated in the National under 15 tournament in every year. We also played in IFA (W.B.) Nursery League under 15 & we are going to participate AIFF Youth league in under 13 & 15 category very soon.
